Germany 3 Portugal 2: THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!!

I do not care who kidnapped Germany for the first three games of the tournament but thank God they brought them back when the games truly matter.

Schweinsteiger returned to the German side like a Bastian out of hell and gave the Portugal defense more than they could handle. He streaked into the penalty area to score the game's first goal from a low laser cross by Podolski in the 22nd minute, then hit Klose on a cross 4 minutes later for another goal to put the German's ahead 2-0.

Cristiano Ronaldo was not going to take defeat lying down though, hitting a wicked shot inside the box that Lehmann was able to save. But Nuno Gomes pounced on Lehmann's deflection, making good on his promise to score in the quarterfinal and forcing the score to 2-1.

Scweinsteiger was not finished though. Off a free kick in the 2nd half he crossed the ball directly into a charging Ballack who headed in a 3-1 German advantage.

There were some tense moments at the end. Portugal made the last few minutes interesting with Postiga scroing a header in the 86th minute and the referee appeared to be wearing a Portugese timepiece when he awarded 4 minutes of stoppage time.

Realistically though the game was not close. Deco was wondering around like an old man trying to find his keys, seeming content to set up his fellow players for longrange shots. Portugal's only consistent offense outside Ronaldo was right back Bostingwa who abused Phillip Lahm, crossing the ball into the German penalty area 13 times.

Perhaps the biggest letdown for Portugal was the poor play of Paolo Ferriera who acted more like a turnstyle than his usual consistent self. He was late in marking all three German goals, although to be fair Ballack got away with small push forward to allow him a perfect strike on the ball.

However the day rightly belonged to Germany who while lax on their ability to control the midfield is absolutely deadly on set plays. The German blitzkreig attack of Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Klose, and Ballack will be difficult for any team to stop.

ballack is amazing. best big game player in the world.....which is more than what can be said for ronaldo. He simple vanishes in these matches.

lehmann was impressive too. showing a near faultless goalkeeping display. Almunia ousting him at arsenal is like rejecting caviar for raw fish.
