HIGH HOPES FOR W-LEAGUE!
FOUR local soccer players will be play in the new women's national soccer league, the W-League.
Taryn Rockall, Britt Simmons, Kyah Simon and Liz O'Reilly have been selected in the inaugural Central Coast Mariners squad.
O'Reilly, 16, of St Clair, is the youngest of the squad and is thrilled to be making history.
``The start of the season is getting really close, and I can't wait to play,'' she said.
Simmons, 18, of Wallacia, will play on the wing for the squad and is looking forward to a boost in the sport.
``The league will definitely give women's soccer a boost the more people see us, the more they'll want to watch us play and even play themselves,'' Simmons said.
The squad is a mix of new and old, with two local Matildas, past and present, as part of the team.
Simon, 17, of Emu Plains, who toured with the Matildas throughout the year, is looking forward to playing with a new group of players.
``I have learnt heaps from the more experienced players already,'' Simon said.
Taryn Rockall, 30, of Whalan is a former Matilda who has played in both previous attempts at a national women's league.
``The amount of opportunity this league will bring about is amazing, especially for the younger girls who are competing for spots on the Matildas,'' Rockall said.
``We've already had the critics bag us out, and we havent even kicked a ball yet, so we are looking forward to playing good soccer to prove them wrong.''
The Central Coast Mariners will play home games at Parramatta and Blacktown. For more information, visit footballaustralia.com.au.

I never thought that Central Coast would have their home games at Parramatta. I thought they would have them at the same ground as the mens like Melbourne Victory are doing...
