I hate Queensland Roar for this.
NOTHING could have been more soothing for Toowoomba's Matildas player Lana Harch than her recent signing with the Queensland Roar.
Harch's frustration at being sidelined by injury for the past eight months was negated when she was picked up by the Brisbane-based team for its 2008/2009 W-League squad.
The 23-year-old's career was put even more firmly back on track with her re-selection in the Matildas line-up.
"I'm really happy to be involved in it all after coming back from injury," Harch said.
"The W-League is going to offer some great opportunities for everyone involved, especially because it will ensure more regular games at a national level.
"The Roar squad has a lot of players with great national and international experience. It's a real plus to be able to play with girls I already know.
"It was a hard decision to sit out on the year but I needed the time to rehabilitate my injury. The Matildas spent most of the season on tour so I thought it was the best year to do it."
Harch has spent the year working as a secondary teacher at Westside Christian College in Brisbane, giving her a mental break from the pressure of top-level competition while she recovered from osteo pubitis.
Now she has returned to peak physical form, however, Harch said she was champing at the bit to join her Matildas team mates Kate McShea, Alicia Ferguson and Clare Polkinghorne on the field for the Roar.
"The time I have spent teaching gave me a really good balance. I really enjoy doing it and the school has been really supportive with my soccer," she said.
"It has been a steady year for me but now it's time to get back into it all.
"I have hit full form and it's time to get going," she said.
