the season starts today in a promising match between the two main contenders to the portuguese title.

Sporting will not have main striker Liedson nor powerful youngster Vukcevic, while Porto don't have to worry, because only Quaresma is unavailable, but he probably wouldn't play anyway.

SPORTING 2 - 0 PORTO

it was a game where both teams were sweating for victory, but sporting got the best of it. Youngster Djaló scored both goals (with a little help from his friends), but Izmailov was in fact the best player in the match.
While sporting seems to have a well structured team, porto shows the absence of bosingwa and paulo assunção, meaning guarin, sapunaru and benitez showing to be nothing but pre-season fiascos.
