Palermo's double-strike against San Martín San Juan last weekend moved him onto 179 goals for Los Xeneizes and the scene has now been set for him to score his 180th goal against Gimansia of La Plata - the place where he was born - on Sunday.
With the milestone fast approaching, the Boca board are set to offer Palermo at contract for life, having been enamoured by the similar gesture Real Madrid extended to Raúl in the last couple of weeks.
"That is the gift that would make his importance to us known: to offer him a contract for life," board member Juan Carlos Crespi told Radio Mitre.
Palermo was happy to see Crespi mention the possibility of such a contract being offered and seemed keen to commit his future to Boca.
"Crespi says that because he is my friend... but hopefully they all have that same thought. That at some future date, and not only because of the 180 goals, I can obtain the tranquility that comes with knowing that I will be able to renew my contract in June or to at least discuss such a thing," he told the station.
