Newcastle Jets defender Matt Thompson insists he won't shy away from making a difficult challenge against Central Coast on Sunday despite the possibility he could be rubbed out for the A-League grand final.
Thompson and teenage striker Jason Hoffman will both walk the suspension tightrope in the second leg of the major semi-final after receiving yellow cards in the opening match two weeks ago.
Four Mariners - John Aloisi, Adam Kwasnik, Andrew Clark and Andre Gumprecht - are also just one caution away from an automatic one-match ban.
But with the Jets ahead 2-0 after the first leg and in the box seat to advance straight to the grand final, the stakes would appear far higher for the Newcastle duo at Bluetongue Stadium.
Thompson, in particular, will face a nervous 90 minutes.
