CAEN, September 1 (Ligue 1) - A penalty from Valter Birsa earned Sochaux a point as the visitors twice came from behind in an entertaining match at Caen.
Juan Eduardo Eluchans and Gregory Proment twice put the home side ahead only for Guirane N'Daw and Birsa to claw Sochaux back into the contest.
The away team had the first chance of the match when Birsa hit a shot that fizzed along the surface but Vincent Plante did well to dive low and save it.
Frederic Hantz's men were having the better of the early exchanges and Julien Quercia was next to test the keeper but he put his shot wide from 10 yards.
Plante then had to make a stunning save from Moumouni Dagano after some good work from Stephane Dalmat allowed him to get a shot away.
In the 32nd minute the home side took the lead against the run of play as Lilian Compan found Eluchans with his back to goal and he managed to turn and slot home.
Sochaux were level just before the hour mark, though, as N'Daw jumped highest to convert a Dalmat corner.
Parity, however, lasted just six minutes as Proment beat three defenders and then wrong-footed keeper Teddy Richert to score.
The equaliser came in the 74th minute when Cedric Henghart was penalised for tugging on the shirt of Quercia.
Birsa stepped up to send Plante the wrong way and snatch a deserved point.
